Terms
The agreement between you and Japoji when you use the app or japoji.com. We’ve kept it as plain as we can.
The short version
- Japoji is a devotional habit tool. It isn’t medical advice or treatment.
- You choose which apps are locked, and you can turn the lock off at any time.
- Japoji Plus renews automatically until you cancel it in the App Store or Google Play.
- Use Japoji respectfully and don’t try to break it.
By downloading, opening or using Japoji, or by joining the waitlist, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Japoji. “Japoji”, “we” and “us” mean the team that makes Japoji.
What Japoji is
Japoji helps you build a daily practice of naam jaap by asking you to take a naam on a mala before you open apps you’ve chosen to lock. It also offers shlokas, streaks, sankalps and reminders.
Japoji is not a medical, psychological or addiction treatment service, and nothing in it is professional advice. If you’re struggling with your phone use or your wellbeing, please talk to someone qualified. Scriptures, translations and explanations are offered in good faith for devotion and reflection. We take care with them, but they aren’t the final word on any tradition, and your own guru, family and tradition should guide your practice.
Who can use it
You must be at least 13 to use Japoji. If you’re under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s permission. You’re responsible for keeping your device secure.
The lock
- Japoji only locks apps you choose. It relies on Screen Time on iPhone and on permissions you grant on Android. If you remove those permissions, or the operating system changes how they work, the lock may stop working.
- Japoji never blocks phone calls, emergency calls or the system settings you need to turn it off. Emergency unlocks are there when you need to get into a locked app straight away.
- Don’t lock apps you need for safety, health, work you can’t delay, or getting around. We aren’t responsible for anything you miss while an app is locked.
- The lock is a nudge, not a guarantee. It can be bypassed, and it may sometimes fail to show.
Japoji Plus, trials and payments
- Some features need a paid subscription, Japoji Plus. Prices and the features included are shown in the app before you buy, and may differ by country.
- If you start a free trial, you’ll be charged when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel in your Apple ID settings on iPhone, or in the Google Play Store on Android. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Plus until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Payments, refunds and billing problems are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms. We can’t issue refunds ourselves, but write to us and we’ll help where we can.
- If we change the price of a subscription, you’ll be told in advance, and the new price applies from your next renewal.
Using Japoji fairly
Please don’t:
- copy, resell or redistribute the app, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows,
- try to get Plus features without paying, or interfere with the app or our services,
- use Japoji or its share cards to mock, insult or misrepresent any deity, scripture, tradition or community, or
- use Japoji in any way that breaks the law.
Our content and yours
The Japoji name, the ॥ mark, the app’s design, illustrations, sounds, translations and writing belong to us or our licensors. Scriptures themselves belong to everyone. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for your own practice. You’re welcome to share the cards Japoji makes for you, such as a shloka or a streak milestone, on your own social accounts.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve Japoji without owing you anything for them.
The waitlist
Joining the waitlist doesn’t guarantee access, a price or a launch date. We’ll email you about Japoji’s launch, and you can leave at any time.
Changes, availability and ending
We may change, add or remove features, and we’ll try to give notice of anything significant. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. You can stop using Japoji at any time by deleting the app and cancelling any subscription.
Disclaimers
Japoji is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we don’t promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or that it will change your habits.
Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for missed messages, lost opportunities or data loss caused by an app being locked. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Japoji in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t legally be limited, or your rights as a consumer under the laws of where you live.
Changes to these terms
If we update these terms we’ll change the date at the top. For changes that matter, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Japoji after that, you accept the new terms.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there. Before anything formal, please email us; most problems are quicker to fix in conversation.
Apple
If you got Japoji from the App Store: these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for the app, its support or maintenance, or any claims about it, and Apple and its subsidiaries can enforce these terms against you as third-party beneficiaries. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple, which may refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation for the app.
